Celebrities abandon Concorde flight
Barbados: Pilot aborts take-off twice after warning light appears
A British Airways Concorde jet carrying a “gaggle” of celebrities was forced to abandon two take-off attempts on a flight back to the UK.
The pilot of the supersonic jet had to twice abort take-off at Barbados airport after a warning light appeared. Passengers aboard the famous plane, including actress Felicity Kendall and comedian Bob Monkhouse, were taken off the plane and eventually flew home on a Boeing 777 flying to the UK on the same day.
Engineers worked overnight on the stricken aircraft, and a problem was found on its number three engine.
A spokesman for British Airways said: “The safety of our customers is always our first concern. The engineers changed an electrical component and the aircraft was taxiing at low speed, about 30 mph, when the engine light illuminated again. The pilot returned the aircraft to its station and the passengers were taken off an accommodated overnight.”
