Celebrity unveils new class of ship
It’s not just another new ship, Celebrity Cruises says of its order for a 118,000-ton Solstice-class ship from Germany builder Meyer Werft.
“It’s a new class, introducing a new program that will further differentiate and elevate the Celebrity brand,” said Richard Fain, CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises, in a statement.
The third 2,850-berth ship ordered from Germany is due to be completed in 2010.
Its sister ships, the Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Equinox, are to be delivered in 2008 and 2009.
Each of the ships will have larger standard staterooms, a higher percentage of balconies and a wider range of guest-services and amenities, according to the cruise line.
Celebrity estimated the cost of the latest ship would be about $245,000 per berth.
