Chancellor pushes PM to relax travel restrictions
The embattled travel industry has a new campaigner in the form of Chancellor Rishi Sunak. In a letter to the PM, he lamented the ‘out of step’ travel restrictions which are causing the economy harm and prolonged damage to the travel and hospitality sectors.
He says the government is taking an over-cautious approach considering vaccination rates and a ‘green status’ should become a default for most countries handling Covid well, rather an exception.
In the missive seen by The Times, Sunak calls for markets such as the US and Caribbean to be given green status.
