Heathrow cancelled at least 30 flights today, after asking airlines to cut schedules to ease pressure on terminal staff.

The late request caught airlines out, affect up to 4,500 passengers.

The ‘schedule intervention’ during the morning peak has caused ‘total chaos’ the Guardian reports.

The cancellations impact mostly British Airways as well as Virgin Atlantic, Lufthansa, KLM, and Aer Lingus.

“We will work with airlines to get affected passengers rebooked on to other flights outside of the peak so that as many as possible can get away,” a Heathrow spokesperson said

“We are working hard to ensure everyone has a smooth journey through Heathrow this summer.”

Additionally, British Airways announced the cancellation of 650 July holiday flights from Gatwick and Heathrow, which could affect over 100,000 passengers.
