Cheevers moves on

Teletext Holidays managing director Matt Cheevers has moved on to allow "new blood" to continue developing the business.

Cheevers, who has been with Teletext for three years, has been replaced by Victoria Sanders, currently sales and distribution director.

She has been with the company for four and a half years, involved in strategic and operational initiatives.

Cheevers is two months into a six-month notice period and does not yet have a leaving date.

He plans to set up a consultancy business, called Smooth Direction Ltd, helping travel companies through the tough times ahead.

"I will be working on two levels, providing a full business review, looking at businesses in detail and ways to improve product and people, and I will also be using my website experience to help companies develop this side of their business.

"There are a lot of companies who have been putting off change but are now being forced to take action.

"I believe there is much opportunity out there, despite all the doom and gloom."

Cheevers said it was the right time for him to leave Teletext.

"I had taken Teletext a reasonable distance in the last three years and now is the right time for me, personally, to set up my own business," he said.

During his time with Teletext, Cheevers reintegrated the television and web operations and launched Teletext’s fledgling retail activity, positioning it to complement rather than compete with advertisers.

Sanders said: “I am delighted to be taking on this role in what is a very exciting and dynamic industry, in spite of difficult market conditions.

"Teletext remains a familiar and trusted player in the travel sector, famous for great value, trustworthiness and consumer choice.

"These things will be even more relevant in the uncertain times ahead and I look forward to leading the holidays business to further success.”
