Chilean man found guilty of tourist rapes
A man convicted of raping two British holidaymakers in a Chilean tourist town faces up to 20 years in prison.
Jaime Ibanez Gutierrez, 36, was found guilty of the attack after a two-day trial in Villarrica in the south of the country, reports The Sun.
His British victims, who gave evidence by video link from London, were raped near La Araucania, the adventure sports centre of Pucon in Chile’s Lake District.
The rapist had followed the pair down a dirt track in his car while they were on a bike ride in October 2014.
He attacked his first victim and dragged her into the woods before assaulting her friend when she came to help. He then tied them to the tree and abandoned them semi-naked.
Gutierrez will be sentenced on Monday.
