China celebrates the opening of the world’s tallest Huajiang Grand Canyon bridge
Proving once again its incredible capacity of developing extraordinary structures, China has opened the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in Guizhou province on September 28, 2025. The structure now officially recognized as the world’s tallest bridge.
The suspension bridge soars 625 meters (2,051 feet) above the Beipan River, eclipsing previous records and redefining what’s possible in mountainous infrastructure.
Stretching 2,890 meters in total length, with a main span of 1,420 meters, the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge carries four traffic lanes as part of the expressway linking Liuzhi and Anlong. It sits dramatically over the gorge, where previously a journey across the canyon could take up to two hours. The new crossing cuts that down to roughly two minutes.
With construction beginning in early 2022, the bridge followed a series of rigorous testing and monitoring procedures, before its official opening on September 28. Engineers made extensive use of modern technologies, including the BeiDou satellite navigation system, drones, intelligent monitoring, BIM (Building Information Modeling) tools, and ultra-high-strength materials. All ensure structural integrity under challenging terrain and weather conditions.
Although its height draws global attention, the Huajiang Bridge is more than an architectural marvel—it’s a transport lifeline. By dramatically reducing travel time, it opens up remote regions of Guizhou for economic development, tourism, and improved access.
