BEIJING – A two-year mapping project by the Chinese government, which used infra-red technology and GPS, found the Great Wall ran for 5,488 miles rather than 3,106.
Chinese state media reports that 70 percent of the monument is a wall, while the remainder is a combination of trenches, hills and rivers which had not been picked up by traditional mapping methods.
