Chinese carrier tipped to join Star Alliance
Shanghai Airlines, China’s fifth-biggest carrier, is poised to join Star Alliance, according to reports.
Hong Kong-based newspaper, The Standard, quoted a source close to the alliance as saying it hopes to make a formal announcement before the second half of the year.
Shanghai Airlines chairman Zhou Chi said the carrier wants to expand its international presence by joining Star Alliance. Most of its flights are domestic.
Air China may also join the alliance although further talks are needed, the source added.
