Chinese tourists to be barred from Taiwan without insurance
Beginning on October 1, Chinese mainland tourists visiting Taiwan will only be permitted entry on production of a travel insurance policy.
Although the number of mainland tourists has increased significantly in recent years, so have the instances of uninsured tourists returning home without settling hospital bills.
The government said there was NT$4 million in unpaid medical expenses last year alone.
According to Taiwan Tourism Bureau figures, 11 million mainland tourists have visited this year but disputes over hospital bills has also risen dramatically.
