Christchurch wins Asia Pacific airport marketing award
BEIJING – New Zealand’s Christchurch International Airport has taken out the 2009 World Routes Airport Marketing Award in the Asia Pacific region.
Other regional winners were Athens (Europe), Dallas Fort Worth (Americas) and Jomo Kenyatta, Mombasa (Africa).
Highly commended in the Asia Pacific region awards were Abu Dhabi and Kuala Lumpur international airports.
The Orbis Social Responsibility Award was presented to Air France, and the Routes Outstanding Achievement Award, was presented to Beijing’s Capital Airports Holding Company.
Mike Berman, vice president, commercial at Route Development Group, said, “We are all aware of the difficult economic times we face at present, and all of the winners demonstrate sustained commitment to high quality services and understanding of market need.
“As has always been the case, but perhaps more acutely at present, the airport-airline relationship is of critical importance to the industry.â€
Jim Boult, from Christchurch International Airport, said a lot of credit for the award needed to go to CIAL’s airline partners.
“The airline relationships that our team have built are critical to our route development strategy. We work closely with airlines throughout our region and around the world to ensure that New Zealand is on the radar and in the running for airline development opportunities.â€
