Cirium: Transatlantic flights at 99% of pre-pandemic
Aviation analytics firm Cirium reveals transatlantic flight numbers are almost fully recovered .
The US now allows unvaccinated travellers into the country for the first time since 2020.
During May 2023, it analysed 4,414 flights scheduled to depart the UK for the US, representing over one million seats.
The transatlantic flight market out of the UK is now at 99% of 2019 levels.
Transatlantic flights out of the UK are up 22% compared to May 2022.
New York JFK remains the most popular US gateway by scheduled flights, followed by Los Angeles, Newark, Chicago and Boston.
During May, British Airways will operate the highest share of flights between the UK and US (31%).
Next is American and United Airlines (both 18%), Virgin Atlantic (16%) and Delta (10%).
Heathrow is by far the busiest departure point for transatlantic flights with 86% share.
London Gatwick has 6% with Edinburgh and Manchester both with 3%.
