CLIA urges Dublin Port to reconsider stricter regime
Cruise body CLIA is calling on Dublin port to reconsider its decision to impose a strict regime on cruise calls.
The port has decided to restrict cruises from 2021 to two large cruise ships a week for the summer season, one large ship each week in the winter, and zero turnarounds.
In a statement issued today, CLIA said: "This decision we believe has been taken without considering the impact it will have on the other ports in Ireland, and on Ireland itself.
“The number of cruise calls will dramatically drop across all Irish ports as a result of the Port of Dublin’s plans. We urge the port to reconsider its decision and to work with the Irish Government and the cruise industry to build cruise tourism sustainably across Ireland moving forward.
"CLIA understands the challenges the Port of Dublin faces in terms of Brexit but its decision to reduce their presence in the Irish cruise sector is very disappointing."
