Cloudbeds highlights new booking trends

Sunday, 09 Feb, 2022 0

Cloudbeds launched its 2022 Travel Trends Report, highlighting key booking, travel, and macro trends set to figure significantly this year as the sector recovers.

It says a dynamic demand environment, direct bookings, and longer stays are three key areas that will shape booking trends for 2022.

It says one of the biggest impacts of the pandemic is that travel demand has been consistently unpredictable.

It suggests factors such as location and seasonality are no longer as reliable as they once were.

Much of the unpredictability has been driven by lockdowns and changing border restrictions, which has forced many travellers to cancel or change their plans at the last minute.

A single announcement can also drive enormous spikes in demand.

It found travel searches from EMEA to the United States increased 95% week-over-week on Expedia after the White House announced it would soon lift travel restrictions for vaccinated international visitors.

Travellers, now used to such uncertainties, have altered their booking habits with booking lead times shortened considerably.

Additionally, the report finds that travellers prefer booking direct, and the average customer is booking a longer stay.

A GlobalData poll revealed that 44% of travellers prefer leisure trips of at least seven nights, while 26% prefer stays of 10+ nights.

Extended stays are also rising in popularity.
