The Co-operative Travel says it has now trained a further 47 high street staff to help disabled travellers searching for a holiday.
The group now has 89 “disabled-friendly” branches across its network. The shops also comply with the Disability Discrimination Act and feature clear access, power-assisted doors, portable hearing loops and visual alarms in-store.
Sales of holidays tailored to make life easier for the disabled have climbed above the £1.4 million mark in the year since the company began its tailored service.
Commercial and market development manager with The Co-operative Travel Trading Group Jane Witherington said: “Since we launched our Specialist Travel proposition we’ve been overwhelmed with positive responses and feedback from our customers, staff and charities.
“It is clear that this service is appealing to a large sector of the market which is currently underserved, and therefore we are delighted to be leading the way in this important area for the travel industry.”
