Coffee fumes force diversion of flight from Florida
A Southwest Airlines plane was forced to divert shortly after take-off from Orlando due to a coffee maker malfunction.
Fumes from the coffee maker were reported in the back of the aircraft and Flight 1539 destined for Houston landed a short time later at Pensacola International Airport.
All passengers and crew were deplaned in Pensacola but the aircraft was deemed safe to continue its journey after the coffee machine was checked, said airline spokesman Brian Parrish.
Just days earlier another Southwest flight was disrupted after a passenger was caught smoking in the toilet. Valerie Curbelo, 24 went on a rant, threatening to kill everyone onboard and had to be subdued for the remainder of the flight to Sacramento.
She was charged with making criminal threats.
