Coming soon: UNICEF collection box on travel websites
New technology rolling out this month enables online travel buyers to make a small donation to the United Nations Children’s Fund with a single click.
The software allows online websites by travel agents, airlines, and hotels to add a box that customers can just click on to make a small donation.
Amadeus, a technology company that provides the engine for many online travel sites, is donating the software to UNICEF.
Donation payments are processed as separate transactions from the travel purchase, keeping them easy to track, and customers receive emails thanking them for their donation.
"We believe that this new initiative with Amadeus will significantly improve UNICEF’s ability to reach a large number of people online and to provide them with a ‘one click’ opportunity to help some of the world’s most vulnerable children survive and thrive," said UNICEF’s international fundraising director Tim Hunter.
