Condoms anyone?

BALI: First there were shops selling only men’s ties and socks. Then there were shops selling only ladies’ knickers.

Now Bali has a shop selling only condoms.

The Island of the Gods has always enjoyed a reputation as the Isle of Love, so the new outlet in the Discovery Shopping Mall in South Kuta may be on a winner.

After all, it will make a change from all those tacky T-shirt outlets and beach hawkers selling fake watches.

The condom store has been named The Guard in deference to concerns about unprotected sex.

Bali Update says the store is small but has been painted bright red to help catch the attention of shoppers visiting the mall. It offers both male and female condoms “in a mind-boggling array of styles imported from around the world”.

The marketing manager of the shop told the local press that the decision to locate in a busy mall was to try to remove the embarrassment and social stigma sometimes associated with purchasing condoms, cautioning “every 10 minutes someone new is infected with HIV”.
