Condor Ferries cancels Channel Islands sailings
Condor Ferries has been forced to cancel a number of sailings between Portsmouth and the Channel Islands from tomorrow until Friday after one of its ferries hit the sea bed en route to Guernsey.
Commodore Clipper has been taken out of service while checks are carried out in St Peter Port.
As a result, Condor has cancelled the 09:00 sailing from Portsmouth to Guernsey and Jersey, the Guernsey to Jersey and Portsmouth 19:05 departure and the 22:35 Jersey to Portsmouth departures from Wednesday until Friday.
Travellers who were booked on any of the above sailings are being contacted and offered alternative arrangements, said the company.
Meanwhile, Condor Ferries has been given approval to apply for a 10-year licence to run ferry services between the UK and the Channel Islands.
The non-exclusive agreement will allow them to operate passenger, vehicle and freight services until 2024.
Condor say the agreement means they can invest in a new, larger fast ferry to replace the existing two.
Guernsey’s government has also agreed to extend a "memorandum of understanding" with Condor until 2024.
Jersey officials have negotiated a get-out clause that comes in after seven years if things are not running as expected.
Senator Alan Maclean, the Economic Development Minister for Jersey, said other ferry operators were welcome too, but they had to provide the same level of service as Condor.
