Tuesday, 20 May, 2005 0

Continental Airlines starts daily flights from Bristol to New York (Newark) today.

The US carrier is also launching a Belfast-New York service on May 26 as part of transatlantic expansion which will see Stockholm, Hamburg, Berlin and Delhi flights introduced by November 1.

The airline is using 172-seat Boeing 757s on the Bristol route in a two-class configuration.

The airline’s Europe, Middle East and India vice-president Jim Summerford said: “It’s great to add Bristol to our UK route network and offer more convenient service to this region for our customers in the Americas. Travellers heading to southwest England and South Wales no longer have to face the extra time travelling to London. They can now fly non-stop to Bristol.”

Meanwhile, Canadian low cost carrier Zoom Airlines has started transatlantic scheduled flights from Manchester, with twice weekly services to Vancouver and Toronto and weekly to Calgary. The flights will operate year-round.
