Conventions set record in Vancouver
Tourism Vancouver had a record year for meeting and convention business, according to Dave Gazley, Tourism Vancouver’s vice president, Meeting and Convention Sales.
The area also had a record year for citywide conventions, hosting 24 in 2004, each one with more than 1,000 delegates. On average, the city has 14 conventions per year.
“A big part of reaching this figure is booking meetings that use the new convention centre,” said Mr Gazley.
Vancouver Mayor Larry Campbell said a big reason for the upswing in business was the establishment of good customer relationships with meeting planners, travel media and tourists.
“We utilize person-to-person and technology-based sales, marketing and visitor services to achieve results,” he said.
