Convicted murderer takes MSC Poesia cruise
The Austrian Times reports that an Austrian man on the run for 13 years for a murder conviction was found onboard the cruise liner MSC Poesia.
The convict, who was traveling under his own name, boarded the ship in Hellesylt in Norway. He was arrested by police when the cruise ship docked in Kiel Harbor in Germany.
The man, who was originally sentenced to prison in Austria for murder, armed robbery and illegal weapons possession, apparently thought he could not be extricated from the ship because of its Panama registry.
The MSC Poesia was inaugurated by MSC in 2008 and is no stranger to controversy. In 2008, it collided near Dubrovnik with the Costa Classica. In January of 2012, the MSC Poesia ran aground on a reef near Freeport, Bahamas. No one was hurt in either incident.
