Cook Islands airline startup targets June launch
New Cook Islands airline startup Pasifika Air plans to launch in June.
It is focusing on direct flights from New Zealand and the start date is dependent on a NZ-Cook Island travel bubble taking off.
Airline founder Mike Pero gave an update on the airline’s progress during a virtual general meeting of the Tourism Industry Council and said the new carrier will not be a LCC.
It aims to fly six times a week from Wellington and Christchurch to Rarotonga.
It will use three Boeing 737s but has yet to acquire any planes.
Rarotonga will always be its main focus but may expand to other Pacific islands after the pandemic if there is demand.
It will focus its marketing efforts on the New Zealand market.
