Corfu villa to be demolished – but not before it was discovered back in use

The Corfu villa where Bobby and Christi Shepherd died from carbon monoxide poisoning is to be demolished at the end of the season – but not before it was discovered back in use with a new number.

Owners of Louis Corcyra Beach Hotel, Louis Hotels, had told the children’s parents that bungalow 112 could not be demolished until criminal proceedings had been concluded but assured them, ‘it is not being used by other guests and it will not be so used in the future’.

However Hill Dickinson, a London legal firm acting for the Louis Hotel Group has finally admitted that the villa had been rented out again since 2013 after its number was changed.

But a spokesman told the Daily Mail: "The bungalow was not used for seven years between 2006 and 2013."

The Louis Hotel Group issued a new statement announcing that the bungalow will be demolished at the end of the holiday season in November.

It added that no further guests would be placed there.

A spokesman for the hotel also said that Christos Louvros – the electrician convicted over the children’s deaths who was found to be back working at the hotel – had been dismissed.

At the same time reports this weekend suggested that Thomas Cook chief executive Harriet Green, who was criticised for being in charge when Thomas Cook tried to have the inquest into the children’s deaths scrapped, is due to get a £10.5million personal bonus next month.

Ms Green left as chief executive of Thomas Cook late last year but has continued to be paid in full, receiving a total of £500,000 while on ‘gardening leave’.

The Mail on Sunday reported that Thomas Cook’s remuneration committee, which has to approve her final pay award on June 30, is unlikely to be able to claw back any of it, despite attempts to prevent employees who damage the reputation of the company getting a bonus.

A Thomas Cook spokesperson said: "Harriet Green is due to receive shares in June. The Remuneration Committee will, as a matter of ordinary course, review these awards when they fall due next month."
