Covid outbreak hits Mediterranean cruise ship
Dozens of passengers were taken off a cruise ship in Genoa, Italy, after testing positive for Covid.
Forty-five left the MSC Grandiosa this week in Genoa ‘to be taken home safely.’
Dozens more passengers who tested positive are expected to be offloaded in Civitavecchia or in Palermo, Sicily.
RaiNews24 reported more than 100 guests are infected.
The ship was carrying over 4,000 guests.
Positive guests and close contacts were ‘immediately isolated in cabins with balconies’ MSC Cruises said.
"In line with the protocol, we organised transportation back home, all in alignment with the relevant health and other authorities."
MSC requires all crew members and guests over 12 be fully vaccinated.
MSC Grandiosa was the first large cruise ship to return to the Mediterranean in the summer of 2020 after a worldwide pause in cruising.
