Crisis meetings planned with Greek authorities
Tour companies in Greece are to meet local authorities following the news that two British tourists have been jailed for their outrageous antics on the holiday island of Rhodes. Police on the island have promised a crackdown on bad behaviour and have already outlawed organised pub crawls around the resort.
The decision comes after one man was stabbed to death in the resort and two tourists were ordered to pay hefty fines to avoid prison sentences after being caught exposing themselves in public.
A spokesman for Olympic Holidays is reported in the press as saying: “If anything needs to be amended, changed or fine-tuned that will take place. If they feel there should be something done we will take it on board and adjust our policy.”
And a spokesman for First Choice Holidays told newspapers: “We are looking forward to discussing how we handle these situations in future and how we can work together.”
