Cruise line boss steps down to do charity work
Royal Caribbean Cruises president and COO Jack Williams is quitting after eight years.
He is to devote his time to charitable work, in particular the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Mr Williams’s decision to leave the Miami-based company comes a month after senior executives Dan Hanrahan and Adam Goldstein were made presidents of Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean International respectively.
Mr Williams, who joined the company as president of Royal Caribbean International in 1997 and has served as president and COO since 2001 is due to leave on June 30 after a transition period.
In a letter to staff he said: “Over the last couple of yars I have struggled with my desire to become more involvedin my charitable work, while still meeting the stringent demands of being president and COO. With the strong management we now have in place I have decided I no longer need to fight that desire, s I will begin the process of transitioning my duties here.”
