Cruise lines resume Bahamas calls
Cruise lines are starting to resume regular itineraries to the Bahamas as the hurricane hit nation says it is open for business.
The Category 5 Hurricane Dorian devastated parts of the island nation, but cruise line ports of call and private island destinations were mostly spared significant damage.
Port Nassau reopened a week ago and Carnival Cruise Line has restarted regular Bahamas sailings.
Carnival says it has a schedule of 41 calls planned in September to Nassau and the private islands of Half Moon Cay and Princess Cays.
The cruise line says Princess Cays suffered only minor damage and a little beach erosion.
Carnival is still sending supplies and working closely with aid partners to help residents hit hard in Abaco and Grand Bahama Islands.
The Bahamas tourism ministry says most of the country’s islands except for Abaco and Grand Bahama are open for business and ready to welcome visitors.
Carnival sister cruise brand Holland America Line will return to Half Moon Cay on October 21 as planned.
Royal Caribbean’s Perfect Day at CocoCay reopened at the weekend after a cleanup and repairs, with damage including some beachfront washed away and felled trees.
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings said its Great Stirrup Cay private island is likely to reopen later this week.
