CTTG steps up pressure for inclusive pricing
The Co-operative Travel Trading Group has pledged to keep up the pressure for inclusive pricing following Thomson’s decision to absorb fuel supplements.
The CTTG said Thomson’s decision was a long-awaited sign that operators were finally being forced to stop misleading consumers over pricing.
Mike Greenacre, CTTG chief operating officer, said: “We have argued for some time now that fuel supplements simply cannot be justified in the wake of a fall-off in the price of oil and the length of time that operators have had to absorb fuel price rises.
“Using artificially low holiday prices to lure consumers in and then stinging them with weighty extra costs simply isn’t being honest.
“We hope that in the wake of the Thomson decision, other operators will get real on this issue and follow suit.
“We also believe that the government should legislate to ensure that all compulsory taxes and charges are shown in any advertised price, whether it be a package holiday or flight only.”
Teletext also announced this week that from April it will only allow advertisers on its website to display prices inclusive of fuel supplements and other compulsary extras (see earlier story).
Holidays online managing director Ray Mason said although its prices might initially seem more expensive than its online rivals, it was confident others would follow.
