Air New Zealand has finally taken delivery this week of the much discussed "cuddle-class" seats in its new Boeing 777-300ER.
The seats work like this. A couple buys two economy class seats and pays half price for a third seat in the row. By moving the footrests and armrests, they can convert the three seats into a “skycouch” which they can then cuddle up on and get some sleep.
The carrier has revealed that some 30 other airlines have said they would be interested in licensing the design.
The aircraft just delivered to Air New Zealand has 22 sets of skycouches in the first 11 rows of economy class.
It will be used from April on the Auckland to London flight via Los Angeles.
The carrier says it has two more planes fitted with the new seating on order and is thinking about retrofitting some of its other craft.
