Customers warned over bookings as Canadian agency’s operations suspended
Consumer protection officials in Canada are warning customers they could lose out after permits were suspended for China specialist Sinorama Travel Vancouver.
The company had its license suspended and bank accounts frozen after Consumer Protection B.C conducted an inspection and detailed concerns that the firm didn’t have sufficient funds to continue operations as a travel agent.
It comes just weeks after Quebec’s travel agency regulator said it would not renew the travel agency license of affiliated company Sinorama Vacances Inc.
‘We are concerned that Sinorama customers won’t get the travel they paid for,’ said Consumer Protection B.C spokesperson Tatiana Chabeaux-Smith.
"We know that people have questions."
It is advising travelers with Sinorama bookings to contact travel suppliers directly, such as the relevant airlines, hotels or the tour operator.
Customers that cannot confirm a booking was made by Sinerama should contact their credit card company.
It is unknown how many customers could be affected but is thought to be in the hundreds at least.
"We are doing everything we can to understand the scope of this situation. We have information on our website and we will continue to update it with new details."
The Travel Industry Council of Ontario said Sinorama Holidays Inc. ceased trading in Ontario on August 8.
