Date set for Continental’s alliance switch
Continental Airlines will join the Star Alliance on October 27.
The airline, currently a member of SkyTeam, will end its participation after its last scheduled flight three days before.
The airline said the move, originally announced in June 2008, will “enhance travel options and competition”.
It said its New York hub at Newark Liberty International Airport will play a particularly important role for Star Alliance travelers.
When the transition to Star Alliance occurs, OnePass members will begin earning base miles and Elite Qualification Miles/Points and be able to redeem miles on Star Alliance airlines.
