Death toll rises in head-on train crash in southern Italy
At least 27 people have been killed and dozens more injured after two passenger trains crashed head on in southern Italy.
Emergency services fear the death toll could rise further as many of the injured passengers are in a critical condition.
The crash occurred on a single-track near the town of Andria, between the coastal towns of Bari and Barletta.
Three carriages were torn apart by the impact of the collision, which happened at 11.30am yesterday.
According to Italy’s newspaper, La Repubblica, human error is currently the main line of inquiry.
