Delays at Heathrow as half term ends
Passengers at Heathrow airport faced severe delays at the weekend as they returned from the half term holidays.
Holidaymakers were forced to wait several hours before they get through immigration because of apparent staff shortages, claims Sky news home affairs correspondent Mark White.
He said airlines at Heathrow issued an urgent bulletin to staff saying they expected delays of up to three hours and that queuing passengers had a knock-on effect on incoming flights.
"It’s a combination of half-term holidaymakers returning to Heathrow but also apparently lower staffing levels at immigration checkpoints," he said.
British Airways admitted congestion had built up in the immigration area in Terminal Five but the UK Border Agency said they were prepared for the busy weekend.
