Delta: 50% booked online
About half of Delta Air Lines bookings are now online, the airline says.
The company broke bookings down this way: early this year, Delta.com handled 29% of all bookings, and online travel agencies handled another 21%. That is an increase of 9 and 8 eights, respectively.
The airline’s recent pricing redesign produced a “substantial increase” in migration from online channels such as traditional travel agencies to online distribution outlets, according to a Delta spokesperson.
Other airlines also reported increases.
Northwest, for example, said internet channels now represent 37% of all point-of-sale bookings.
A US Airways spokesperson said traditional travel agencies still account for more than half of total bookings, but volume on usairways.com has grown noticeably. It now accounts for 20% of all bookings, according to wire services.
