Delta dawns over the Pacific to Sydney
SYDNEY -Delta Air Lines, the world’s biggest carrier, has confirmed its plans to launch flights from Los Angeles to Sydney in July next year.
The move is likely to intensify a fares war on the route, which has been dominated by Qantas and United.
Combined with V Australia’s plans to fly to LA in February, Delta’s arrival will boost the number of seats on the route and is likely to see a drop in fare prices.
Delta, a member of the SkyTeam alliance, will have a daily Boeing 777-200 flight on the route from July 1.
Qantas, which recently deployed its second A380 super jumbo on the route, has more than 70 per cent of direct Australia-US passenger traffic.
