Delta heading back to Barbados
Starting December 4, Delta Air Lines is resuming flights to Barbados after a gap of three years.
Announcing the news at a press briefing, Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Tourism Authority, Petra Roach expects the flights will generate an extra 33,000 visitors a year.
Flights will operate Thursdays and Saturdays departing simultaneously from Atlanta and New York using 160-seat 737 aircraft.
Roach said the challenges which led to the carrier pulling out of Barbados in 2011, have been addressed.
"There were a number of reasons why it didn’t work in terms of connectivity and we have looked at them and negotiated with Delta in terms of having 19 cities that will be connecting through to the Atlanta out-bound service," Roach said.
Just days ago, Delta also announced it would resume flights from Atlanta to St. Croix, US Virgin Islands with a weekly Saturday service.
For both Caribbean services Delta will work with the respective Departments of Tourism on a joint marketing strategy.
