Delta posts record Thanksgiving passenger traffic
Delta Air Lines had a record breaking Thanksgiving carrying more than 2.3 million customers between Wednesday and Sunday.
The airline operated 23,114 flights around the globe during the holiday period, with last Sunday the busiest day of all.
Delta flew approximately 646,000 on Sunday on nearly 6,000 flights – an all-time record for the month of November.
That works out at about 800 more flights than an average Sunday in November, Delta said.
Most notable of all, Delta didn’t have to cancel any flights from Wednesday through Saturday on either its mainline network or Delta Connection.
That changed Sunday due to Midwest winter storms.
It affected services in and out of Kansas City and Chicago on Sunday, leading to 50 flight cancelations.
"Each year Delta people are ready to tackle any challenges that come our way, including those from Mother Nature, to take care of the volume of customers trusting us with their holiday travel," said Gil West, Delta’s chief operating officer.
Delta’s on-time arrival score was 70.3% for the holiday period, the airline said.
