Delta results tell a familiar story
Proving that American Airlines isn’t the only US carrier with problems, Delta Air Lines yesterday reported a loss of $466million for the first quarter of the year.
This compared to a loss of $397million for the same period in 2002. The airline estimates that the war in Iraq and the period leading up to the conflict has cost it around $125million in operating revenues for the first three months of the year.
Delta is hoping that this week’s launch of low cost arm Song will help to revive its fortunes.
American Airlines narrowly avoided bankruptcy on Wednesday after flight attendants caved in and agreed to wage cuts worth $340milllion.
Meanwhile in the UK, bmi yesterday announced a pre tax loss of £19.6 million for 2002 against a pre tax profit of £12.4 million the previous year.
