Delta targets Europe in profit bid
Troubled Delta Airlines will today unveil an expanded international network that will see it jump ahead of British Airways on transatlantic routes.
The carrier, which earlier this month entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy, will scale back its US routes and add 11 European routes next Spring, including additional services to the UK.
The expansion, which will increase its international capacity increase 25%, forms the bedrock of ambitious plans to regain profitability by the end of 2007.
Delta want 35% of its revenue to be generated by international flights, up from the current 20%.
Spokeswoman Chris Kelly said: “Delta is uniquely positioned to be successful in these European markets. We can do it without purchasing new aircraft.”
