Delta waiving bag, pet fees for Hurricane Florence flights
As well as waiving ticket change fees, Delta Air Lines is relaxing baggage fees and fees for pets in the cabin at smaller airports in the path of incoming Hurricane Florence.
Nearly two million residents have been warned to evacuate their homes in Southeastern states.
Delta’s policy covers flights booked for travel up to September 17 from select airports in the Carolinas, Virginia and Georgia.
These include Charleston and Myrtle Beach, SC, Norfolk in Virginia, Savannah, Georgia, and Jacksonville and Wilmington, NC.
"We know customers have enough to worry about during events like these and by waiving these fees is part of our focus on taking care of our customers, as well as their pets, as we know pets are an important part of the family,” airline spokesman Michael Thomas said.
Delta is easing its normal cap on the number of animals allowed in the cabin on a single flight but must still be able to fit in a pet carrier under the seat.
The bag fee waiver eases the number of bags carried and includes overweight or oversized luggage.
However the airline said it cannot guarantee all will be carried on the same flight due to the various weight restrictions in place on smaller aircraft.
Hurricane Florence has been described as a ‘monster, life threatening’ storm, by North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper.
In a stark warning he said: "The waves and wind this storm may bring is nothing like you’ve ever seen. Even if you’ve ridden out storms before, this one is different. Don’t bet your life on riding out a monster."
