Delta’s “Song” in tune with Airline’s goals
Last April, Delta launched its new discount carrier, Song, which is presently running at an unexpected 75% capacity. As a result of this success the airline plans on adding 25 more planes later this week. Last year, Delta reported a staggering $1.3 billion dollar loss. On the other hand, Song is expected to save Delta $1.3 billion by the end of this year. The airline is hoping Song’s efficient style, lower requirements in staff and better aircraft utilization will rub off on Delta.
Nevertheless, before the airline reaches its elusive goal, their pilots will have to return to the bargaining table. Delta needs to cuts costs and wants pilots to rescind a 4.5% wage hike negotiated last May. Last month, the two sides broke down and no new talks are scheduled.
