Despite a spring break bump, the airline recovery is still a long way off
Airlines are hinting they may soon be in ‘cash positive’ territory for the first time since the pandemic upended global travel. There is general optimism the recovery is about to get under way finally, especially with a busy spring break season on the horizon.
Compared to the chaos of the last year it is indeed positive news, but there is a long, long way to go. Despite the over-the-top optimism of investors over the past few days, the airline industry will stay in the doldrums until high flying, high spending business travelers start flocking back. That is unlikely for many months yet.
