Destination New South Wales needs space, says TTF
The integration of Events NSW and Tourism NSW as part of a new statutory body, Destination NSW, has been welcomed by the Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF).
TTF Chief Executive John Lee said that placing the marketing of New South Wales as a tourism destination at arm’s length from government would give the agency more autonomy in its creative decision-making.
“This will give the authority more freedom in its activities, including the formation of corporate partnerships.â€
Lee said combining the functions of both Events NSW and Tourism NSW would allow the better integration of major events into promotional and marketing campaigns, maximising the return on investment on marketing expenditure.
“That will deliver better value for taxpayers and help to attract more tourists to NSW, meaning more economic activity and more jobs.”
Lee said it was now incumbent on the state government to ensure that Destination NSW “is allowed to get on with the job of selling the state to the worldâ€.
