DFAT reissues travel advisory to Indonesia including Bali.
DFAT has re-issued its travel advisory for Indonesia and while the overall level of advice has not changed, it advises reconsideration of the need to travel to Indonesia overall, including Bali and advises not travelling at all to Aceh, Maluku and Central Sulawesi.
The DFAT advices goes on to say that DFAT advises you reconsider your need to travel to Indonesia, including Bali, at this time due to the very high threat of terrorist attack, adding, “We continue to receive a stream of reporting indicating that terrorists are in the advanced stages of planning attacks against Western interests in Indonesia against a range of targets, including places frequented by foreigners.”
“If you are in Indonesia, including Bali, and are concerned for your safety you should consider departing and if you do decide to travel to Indonesia, including Bali, you should exercise extreme caution.”
DFAT says that in December 2005, Indonesian authorities warned publicly that terrorists in Indonesia may be planning to kidnap foreigners and that terrorist attacks against Westerners in Bali and Jakarta indicate that these areas are a priority target for terrorists in Indonesia.
