Digital detox – for those wanting to disconnect
Cathay Pacific has teamed up with Mashable to get people talking about what they would do with #onedayoffline. Digital detoxes are a huge point of conversation these days with more and more people looking for alternatives to their hyper connected lives.
Ironically, people have taken to social media to share their favourite ways to disconnect as part of this new campaign which aims to get people experiencing their holidays again – not just reliving them back home from the comfort of Facebook and Instagram.
Virgin Atlantic continues to shine on social media with competitions and hash tags to keep users engaged. Earlier this week the brand celebrated the one-year anniversary of the launch of its 787 ‘birthday girl’ aircraft by giving out surprises to those celebrating their birthdays in the streets of London and New York.
Those celebrating their birthday on October 28 were asked to tweet Virgin Atlantic using the hash tag #787surprises to receive a special surprise. The Virgin Atlantic hash tags continue to tie in with the NFL championships. The brand is offering social media users the chance to win tickets to the super bowl. The hash tag #NFLdream was used across Twitter and Instagram with people uploading their best NFL style photos to try and win the tickets.
In June 2015 NASA’s New Horizon’s research team launched their global social media campaign, #PlutoTime. The campaign evolved in response to numerous inquiries as to how images could be taken of Pluto, given how far it is from the sun. NASA received over 7,000 images from across the globe of everything from landscapes to people to pets. These have been turned these into three beautiful mosaics of Pluto, Charon and a combined image of them both and show the sunlight level on Pluto at noon, allowing us to imagine what it’s like on Pluto, a planet which is over three billion miles away!
With the music world moving from downloads back to vinyl records, the social media world is moving from Facebook and Twitter back to good old emails to communicate. Social media only provides the opportunity to share little pieces of information that can spread rapidly online, however the return of the email is upon us so that thoughtful, curated and edited content can be shared with audiences.
With spam filters improving to keep the ‘rubbish’ out, a zero-inbox culture is making emails useful once again. So look forward to receiving your daily news via your inbox rather than social media accounts.
