Southwest Florida’s Fort Myers is prepping for a busy few months ahead.

It is preparing to welcome new hotels and beachside restaurants and sees the return of the annual Island Hopper Songwriter Fest.

National Seashell Day, which fell on 21 June, officially marked the first day of summer in the Fort Myers area.

Island Hopper Songwriter Fest returns

The return of Island Hopper Songwriter Fest 2023 has been announced, and is set to take place from 22 September to 1 October 2023. In its ninth year, the 10-day, award-winning festival brings Nashville songwriters to Southwest Florida to perform in intimate settings. The festival will also see a new edition to the format as it welcomes the city of Cape Coral to the lineup, spreading itself across four locations.

While most shows are free, there will be new ways to enjoy ticketed live performances this year, including, Island Hopping cruises; songwriter brunches; chef’s dinners and wine pairings.

Recently confirmed acts include the multiple Academy of Country Music Award winning Chris Janson, who will perform at the Pink Shell Beach Resort & Marina pool party. Visit island-hopperfest.visitfortmyers.com

Margaritaville Fort Myers Beach

The highly anticipated Margaritaville Resort Fort Myers Beach is on track for its grand opening in autumn 2023. Boasting laid-back luxury with a Caribbean twist, it features Fins Up! Beach Club, the St. Somewhere Spa and six eateries. The property will house 254 guest rooms and suites.

 

Crown Plaza rebrands to Doubletree by Hilton, Fort Myers

The Crowne Plaza Fort Myers at Bell Tower Shops in south Fort Myers will shift brands to the Hilton portfolio by the end of 2023. The property’s conversion to a DoubleTree by Hilton will consist of major renovations to the lobby, meeting rooms and its Shoeless Joe’s Sports Cafe. The hotel’s 225 guest rooms recently underwent extensive renovations.

 

The Shipyard docks on Captiva Island

In honour of the island’s glorious nautical past, The Shipyard has opened at ‘Tween Waters Island Resort & Spa on Captiva Island. Previously known as Crow’s Nest Bar & Grille, it is an already popular spot with locals and visitors alike. The transformation has seen it grow from one to two stories with views of the Gulf of Mexico.

 

Fort Myers Brewing Company earns international acclaim

Fort Myers Brewing Company has a received a silver medal at the 2023 World Beer Cup. The brewery was awarded silver in the Chocolate Beer category for its popular Chocolate Stout, an imperial stout with decadent layers of rich chocolate.

 

URBAN GREENERY

 

Fort Myers plans first-ever pocket park

In line with the increasing desire for city greenery, designs for an urban park in downtown Fort Myers are being drawn up. Elements for the park include permanent and other seating options with tables and chairs, a water fountain paired with a pet bowl station, and multi-purpose special events use. The park will also incorporate decorative architecture.
