Disgruntled Florida tourist a ‘Midtown Maniac’
A large but unknown number of New York City police and firefighters arrested a man with bizarre leaflets about Florida tourism after he dangled from chains off a Manhattan hotel balcony.
As tense cops closed in, the unidentified man unloosed a flurry of flyers. He was wearing a mountain-climbing harness anchored to the 13th floor of the Kimberly Hotel, said reports.
The flyers described in detail how bad weather, parking tickets and crime can ruin a tourist’s trip to Florida.
No charges were immediately filed. Police sent the man for a psychiatric evaluation.
Traffic in the area of 145th East 50th Street was tied up for at least an hour.
The New York Daily News called the individual a “Midtown Maniac.”
