Disneyland postpones reopening date
California’s Disneyland is delaying its phased opening planned for next month.
The Aneheim resort was all set to allow guests back from July 17 after a closure of several months.
State and local authorities have still not given approval for the opening date, so Disney has pushed it back .
"Given the time required for us to bring thousands of cast members back to work and restart our business, we have no choice but to delay the reopening of our theme parks and resort hotels until we receive approval from government officials," the company said.
California will not reissue reopening guidelines until ‘sometime after July 4,’ Disney said.
Disney has declined to give a likely new reopening date.
That is perhaps with good reason due to the surging number of new cases of Covid-19.
California recorded a record 7,149 new cases on Wednesday, according to the state Department of Public Health.
Florida’s Walt Disney World is still on track to reopen its gates next month despite growing unease after the surging number of cases there too.
Two petitions have gained nearly 60,000 signatures calling for the WDW reopening to be delayed.
