Doomed Doncaster Sheffield Airport gets a lifeline
Shuttered Doncaster Sheffield Airport has been given a possible lifeline.
Doncaster Council has agreed to fund £3.1m.
This money will go toward legal costs for a compulsory purchase order.
However, the CPO remains a Plan B.
It would only be in effect if all other options fail.
These are a sale or lease of the airport.
Doncaster Sheffield Airport was closed in late 2022 by its owners Peel L&P.
The council is also itself considering leasing the site.
“City of Doncaster Council has now sent that document to Peel for consideration.”
“We understand there are still conversations between interested parties in a potential purchase of the site from Peel,” the council added.

The City of Doncaster was recently voted as the largest logistical hub in Yorkshire if not in the UK, rated the within the top five of smaller cities worldwide recommended for development and investment. Its road and rail links are the envy of many larger cities in the UK. The development of DSA would complete the circle.

As the UK aviation recovers, so must regional flying, especially with capacity limitations at the London airports.
